A Napoleon cannon, the most popular piece of the war used by both sides.  It was a smooth bore cannon, shooting round shot, with a shorter range than the rifled cannons

More artillery, generally Union.  Notice the reinforced breech of the Parrott rifled cannons.  As cannons could explode as they wore out over time, killing or wounding their crews, the reinforced breech both extended the life of the cannon, and tended to have the cannon fail from stress at the muzzle, not the breech, which was safer for the crew.  The slim cannon in the center is a breech loading model.
