Another view of the same cannon, notice
it is cast iron.
An information piece explaining how
the North had an opportunity to take Petersburg and Richmond by
continuing the same assault that swept over Battery Five.
A brass cannon set up in Battery
Five.
And another.
Looking down the barrel. You
can see the vent that would take the friction primer. The trees
would have been gone, to clear away a field of fire for the
cannon. Much of the battlefield at Petersburg would have been
nothing but dirt and mud, as opposed to the trees and verdant growth
you see there today.
